HR Skills for HR Assistants (Kelowna)

Program Summary:

To be an active contributor to an organization's human resources team, assistants need to understand the role of the department and its impact on the entire organization. Designed for those who have worked in human resources for as few as 3-4 months or for as many as 2-3 years, this workshop explores a variety of human resources issues that promote organizational effectiveness. It will also provide an overview of the key human resources areas and how they link together to implement the organization's people philosophy and objectives.

  • Critical employment laws
  • How key HR areas contribute to strategy
  • Essential HR components, policies, guidelines, and structure required for an effective HR department



Debra Lindsay
, CHRP, is a seasoned HR professional and OD consultant. In her previous experiences, she worked with a diverse group of clients and companies concentrating on organizational improvement, change and transition processes, business strategy, recruitment, and human resources management in both union and non-union environments. She has also been an instructor for HR Management at Langara College. Debra's past BC HRMA workshops have been well received for her willingness to share her extensive HR experience and knowledge with participants.

Emerging level Practitioners. HR assistants, administrators, associates, coordinators, etc. requiring a general overview of the human resources structure and its contribution to the organization's strategy.
